UNIONS
AFL-CIO - The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a voluntary federation of 64 national and international labor unions. Today's unions represent 13 million working women and men of every race and ethnicity and from every walk of life. In the AFL-CIO, workers and unions find the opportunity to combine strength and to work together to improve the lives of America's working families, bring fairness and dignity to the workplace and secure social and economic equity in our nation. The AFL-CIO and member unions are dedicated to four interconnecting goals critical to achieving that mission: strengthening working families by enabling more workers to join together in unions, building a stronger political voice for working families, providing a new voice for workers in the global economy and creating a more effective voice for working families in our communities.
SEIU - The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is 2 million working people and 120,000 retirees united to improve our jobs and our communities. Doctors Council is affiliated with SEIU, which is the largest and fastest growing union in North America and is the biggest health care union.
CIR - The Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) is affiliated with the SEIU and is the sister union of Doctors Council. CIR represents residents and interns. CIR is the largest housestaff union in the country, representing more than 12,000 residents nationwide. CIR contracts improve housestaff salaries and conditions as well as the quality of patient care.

American Arbitration Association (AAA)- The American Arbitration Association is available to resolve a wide range of disputes through mediation, arbitration, elections and other out-of-court settlement procedures.
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) - The Bureau of Labor Statistics is the principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics.
Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations - Classes are open to any motivated person interested in learning more about the labor movement and trade unionism. A labor studies program and a union leadership workshop series are available.
Department of Labor (DOL)- The Department of Labor fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by improving their working conditions, advancing their opportunities for profitable employment, protecting their retirement and health care benefits, helping employers find workers, strengthening free collective bargaining, and tracking changes in employment, prices, and other national economic measurements. In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers' rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other income support.
Federal Mediation and Concilliation Service (FMCS)- The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), created in 1947, is an independent agency whose mission is to preserve and promote labor-management peace and cooperation. Headquartered in Washington, DC, with five regional offices and more than 70 field offices, the agency provides mediation and conflict resolution services to industry, government agencies and communities.
Industrial Relations Research Association (IRRA) - The Industrial Relations Research Association is a singular organization of professionals interested in industrial relations and human resources.
National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) - The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1935 to administer the National Labor Relations Act, the primary law governing relations between unions and employers in the private sector.
New York City Employees Retirement System (NYCERS) - The New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS) was established by the New York State Legislature in 1920. Membership in NYCERS is available to all New York City employees who are not eligible to participate in the New York City Teacher's Retirement system, the New York City Police Pension Fund, the New York City Fire Department Pension Fund, or the New York City Board of Education Retirement System. In addition to the various departments of the City of New York, members of NYCERS are also employed by the New York City Transit Authority; the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority; the New York City Housing Authority; the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC); the New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation; the New York City Rehabilitation Mortgage Insurance Corporation; the New York City Housing Development Corporation; the City University of New York; the New York City School Construction Authority; the Municipal Water Authority; and certain employees in Departments of the State of New York which had formerly been New York City departments.
New York City Office of Collective Bargaining (OCB) - The Office of Collective Bargaining is an impartial, tri-partite governmental agency created by local law as authorized by the State's Taylor Law. It was established by the City Council of New York City after negotiations and agreement among representatives of the City, the unions representing City employees, and impartial labor relations professionals. The OCB provides assistance to management (the City), and labor (unions representing city employees) in resolving their differences.
New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH) - NYCOSH is at the forefront of the growing movement to stop occupational injury, illness and death. Founded in the late 1970's NYCOSH fights for every worker's right to a safe and healthful job. NYCOSH educates workers and the public about the growing number of hazards on the job; provides unions with safety and health training; and maintains a resource center and technical assistance Hotline to address questions about hazards ranging from high-voltage electrical power lines and asbestos removal, to less apparent threats, such as radiation, indoor air pollution, and infectious disease in the workplace.
NYCOSH, the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, is a non-profit coalition of 200 local unions and more than 400 individual workers, physicians, lawyers and other health and safety activists - all dedicated to the right of every worker to a safe and healthful job. Part of a nation-wide network of 25 union-based safety and health organizations, NYCOSH fights job hazards where the fight is needed most: on the shop floor.
New York State Department of Labor - The New York State Department of Labor is New York State's primary advocate for job creation and economic growth through workforce development. The department administers New York's unemployment insurance system, labor exchange system, and Welfare-To-Work programs. The department also oversees state worker protection programs, including enforcement of safety and health regulations in the public sector, state labor laws and federal statutes related to working conditions, wages and hours, and laws related to Public Work. The Department of Labor serves as the State's principal source for labor market information and offers a variety of services designed to help businesses find workers and people find jobs.
New York State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) - The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) was created in 1967 with the enactment of the Public Employees' Fair Employment Act (commonly known as the Taylor Law). Although the Taylor Law constitutes §200-214 of the Civil Service Law, PERB was established as an independent agency, statutorily separated from the Civil Service Department. The Taylor Law granted public employees throughout the State the right to join and participate in the activities of any union of their choice.
The main office of PERB is located in Albany; PERB regional offices are located in New York City and Buffalo.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) - The mission of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is to save lives, prevent injuries and protect the health of America's workers. To accomplish this, federal and state governments must work in partnership with the more than 100 million working men and women and their six and a half million employers who are covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
Queen's College, CUNY, Labor Resource Center - The Queens College Worker Education Extension Center was established in cooperation with New York City labor unions to expand educational services to working adults in Manhattan. The Extension Center is now a collaborative effort of a number of unions and the City University. The Labor Resource Center was established to provide labor related resources and educational services to academia, the public, and the labor community. The Center's staff conducts research, develops educational materials, sponsors forums, organizes conferences, and edits and distributes publications in order to promote discourse within the labor movement and the general public.
Workers' Compensation Board, New York State - Workers' compensation insurance provides weekly cash payments and the cost of full medical treatment, including rehabilitation, for covered employees who become disabled as a result of a disease or injury connected with their employment. It also provides payments for qualified dependents of a worker who dies from a compensable injury or illness. In administering this program, the Workers' Compensation Board receives and processes workers' claims for benefits, employers' reports of injury, and medical reports from physicians and other health care providers.

Working Families Party (WFP)- The WFP is a grassroots, community and labor based political party with chapters throughout New York State. The goal of the Working Families Party is to inject the issues of working-class, middle-class, and poor people-like jobs, health care, education, and housing-into the public debate, and hold candidates and elected officials accountable on those issues. Our organizing strategy is to start local, think long-term, combine campaign work with organizing and education, and not waste supporters' votes on candidates with no chance of winning.

Commission on the Public's Health System- The Commission on the Public's Health System is committed to the vision of a strong and responsive public health and hospitals system in the city; access to health care for everyone, regardless of ability to pay, language spoken, race and/or ethnicity, or diagnosis; support for community organizations working to organize around health care in their neighborhoods, and communities having a seat at the table to plan for their health care needs.

Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) - PNHP is a single issue organization advocating a comprehensive, single-payer, national health care program. Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) believes that access to high-quality health care is a right of all people and should be provided equitably as a public service rather than bought and sold as a commodity. The mission of PNHP is therefore to educate physicians, other health workers, and the general public on the need for a comprehensive, high-quality, publicly-funded health care program, equitably-accessible to all residents of the United States. Physicians for a National Health Program is a not-for-profit organization of physicians, medical students, and other health care professionals that support a national health insurance (NHI) program. Specifically, PNHP believes that a single-payer system (where the government finances health care, but keeps the delivery of health care to mostly private control) is the only solution to solving the United States' many health care problems: 43 million citizens with no health insurance, many more with only limited coverage, skyrocketing health insurance premiums, malpractice costs, long-term care issues, and relatively poor health indicators, when compared to similar industrialized nations.
